Do You Have a Digital Strategy?
This week's tip is all about digital strategy
Why? Because that's where the action is at! If you want to get the money you have to have a plan that incorporates digital. What does that mean? It's not enough to have just a social media presence. It takes more than a few posts on Facebook or LinkedIn to get people's attention. With a digital strategy you put it all together to create a streamlined process that puts information out there but also engages potential donors. The intent is to go deeper with engagement. The strategy helps you plan, develop, and distribute key messages with compelling stories and calls for action. Your strategy will also help you analyze and interpret key metrics that you can use to make strategic decisions that maximize your fundraising goals. Here's the short checklist of how to create your own digital strategy:
Step 1: Take an inventory of the various digital platforms that you're using (email, social media, YouTube, Instagram, etc.). Which ones are you getting the most traction from? Is there at least a few that you are using on a regular basis that can be incorporated into your digital strategy?
Step 2: Determine the content that best serves your fundraising and communication goals.
Step 3: Take time to plan out a content calendar. This should coincide with your development plan's calendar. Create content that compliments your activities. Ideally, you want to create a plan that uses integrated, complimentary, multi-channel distribution of your content.
Step 4: Write your strategy. Be sure to include benchmarks and ways that you will measure your progress. You should incorporate several targets that you want to achieve.
Step 5: Implement, engage and measure.
Creating a digital strategy that works for your nonprofit is not a simple task. It takes time and thought. It also takes some resources.
